Summer So Far.

Doing my best to embrace the free time perks that result from unemployment. Writing like a fiend, everyday. Some of it makes sense. Some of it is just snippets of nonsense. (For instance, contemplative statements on being a cat lady--a fate which in fact does not await me, as I am allergic to cats.) It feels like there are so many words and I just need to get them out. I've tried to rearrange my days to be more productive; an early morning workout usually kills some of the scattered, tangential thinking that plagues me later in the day. Getting up earlier, pushing my body through routines that make it think it's dying...I think my brain focuses on survival so all of the inconsequential worries disappear for the sake of living. I get home. Replenish. Clean up. Apply for a few jobs. Then start writing. With this process, I find that I can really focus on what story I'm trying to tell. There is no guilt that I'm not job hunting. Or doing something to burn calories. It's already done and I can write. I'm officially on a deadline now, after all. Coffee in hand and water nearby, I slip into my writing coma. It's a different dimension. I'm in the zone where creative things can happen. Still working on proper, polite response when interrupted; grateful that actual daggers do not fly from my eyes because everyone in this house would be dead or severely wounded. Basically, I need one of those "ON AIR" lamps that radio stations use. It's safer for everyone that way.

If blog entries diminish or drop off entirely, I'm more than likely hiding in my writing cave. In addition to writing, I have my summer read/re-read list for which I am quite excited. I also promise to give a full report of my other "30 Things" adventures scheduled for later this summer. After all, that's what this blog is (mostly) about. Skydiving is scheduled late next month before my friend leaves for grad school; moonlight kayaking will also happen before summer's end. I've already started my "Fabulous Frivolities For 40" list. It will look different than my "30 Things" list for obvious reasons. I'm thinking mini-triathlon, Machu Picchu, and climbing Kilimanjaro. Who's with me?!
