Return of the Words
So the last few months have been a bit wild. I had nothing nice to say and taking my mother's advice, I determined to not say anything at all. Sometimes, we go through those seasons in life. Job hunting is like beating your head against a wall, and I had an emotional headache. However, I also had the self awareness to recognize I needed a change of space and a change of pace. Cue the roadtrip.
September: Not much. Slight movement on the job front, but mostly game-planning my trip to San Diego. Thank you, credit card points. Also found out I am allergic to wheat. Not gluten. Wheat. And apparently, walnuts, cashews, and pork. Bacon, how I shall miss thee!
October: San Diego. In a word, amazing. I accomplished another 30 Before 30 goal when I finally dipped my toes in the Pacific in Coronado. I saw the cliffs at Torrey Pines, dined in La Jolla overlooking the ocean, sailed the bay, and climbed around in tidal pools near Sunset Cliffs. I had authentic Mexican food, ate fish tacos nearly everyday, and even sneaked wheat. I saw people playing frisbee-golf (interesting looking game), reveled in the beauty of Balboa Park and stared like a tourist at the bare mountains that sprung up but an hour from the coast. I melted beneath the swelter of the Santa Ana winds, and experienced a cold and elusive SoCal rain on my last day. (It seemed even the skies of San Diego wept at my departure.) The biggest surprise of my trip were the people--my cousin, her husband, their friends...we merry five made up the commune on Herman that week. We talked about past pains still healing, thoughts on faith, shared some laughter, and they introduced me to Dance Moms (what a horror.) I left with a hazy glow about my heart and still smile at the memories made in that time and place.
November: Immediately upon my return from my trip, I was required to jump right back into real life, heading to an interview. I was offered a contract through January 2014 and started the new gig on Halloween. I sort of have a sort of love/hate relationship with the position. I am the Social Media Coordinator and the work, as with any job, ebbs and flows. The days I am busy are glorious; the slow days painful. There is talk of making the position full-time, but there is also a hiring freeze so I am not sure how that works. At this juncture I am at the halfway point of the contract, and simply taking it one day at a time. The pros are that it has me back in somewhat of a routine, offers a steady if lackluster paycheck, and affords me the opportunity to return to yoga and pilates, two activities that aide in my relaxation. (Yes. This job requires intentional and regularly scheduled time for relaxation.) I've also started writing again. Hello, old friend (more likely frenemy.)
But until then, I am content in this place even as I am not content to stay here forever. I am ever-seeking that next adventure. (If looking for an event-planner/organizer extraordinaire/social media poster/joke teller/speech giver in iambic pentameter/historian/writer/quoter-of-movie-lines OR interested in climbing Kilimanjaro...let me know! Now booking adventures for 2014 and beyond.)

December: Tis the season. I am determined to one of these days fully leave retail. There will be no more Black Fridays. No more mayhem leading up to the holidays. No more working on Christmas Eve, then rushing back to work the day after Christmas. Someday, I will have the holiday break I always imagined. This year is not yet that year. However, we have many family members from far away visiting this season, and despite work schedules, the crazy weather, and the fact I cannot eat wheat, it will be a happy holiday. I imagine more introspection heading into the New Year and I pray for a grand revelation of my life's purpose.
